Cause one- Slavery. Slavery was probably the biggest cause of the whole war. The North hated slavery, and the South loved it. But the country wanted slavery, or not slavery. They couldn't do both.
Cause two- The election of Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln was an anti-slavery president, which angered many Confederates. President Lincoln kept preaching and teaching, and eventually he out lawed slavery. That's what really ticked off the Confederates.
Cause three- Southern state secession. Because all of the southern states seceded, they had tensions between eachother still involving slavery. Eventually, the tensions grew, and the war began.
